Projects

Book Sale Shelf

Can’t wait for the next book sale?  Check out the Friends Ongoing Book Sale shelf beside the circulation desk in the Library.  It is continuously restocked with some of the best books donated throughout the year – from current releases, to old favourites, to hobbies and crafts.  At only $2 a book, it’s the perfect place to pick something up to read on vacation or at home.

Annual Fall Book Sale

Each fall, the Friends of the Cranbrook Public Library and the Rotary Club Sunrise hold a much anticipated book sale with a selection of thousands of books.  Books range from the late 1800s to yesterday’s releases.  They have been sorted into over forty different categories to make shopping easier.  There are books on Canadian history, mystery, cooking, crafts, trades, music, children’s, large print, newer release, sports and much more.  Readers of all ages and interests are sure to find something to fit their style and budget.  So come on out – this is your chance to find great reads at great prices!  Doors open daily at 9:30 am and close at 5:00 pm on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, with late night shopping on Thursday until 9:00 pm.

It pays to be a member because the first day of the sale is for members of the Friends and Sunrise Rotary club only and members receive a 10% discount every day except Sunday.  You can purchase the $10 Friends membership for adults (18 and under are covered by their parent’s membership) at the door.

The last day of the sale features the very popular BAG SALE.  Bring in your Friends of the Library cloth bag and fill it for $5 OR purchase a new Friends of the Library bag on site and fill it for $10.  No other book bags may be used for this sale.

Proceeds from this sale are split between the Friends and the Rotary Club of Cranbrook Sunrise. The Friend’s portion supports programs and services at the Cranbrook Public Library.  The Rotary club’s portion support a number of different community and youth programs such as scholarships, youth exchanges, and youth leadership programs.

Adopt-A-Magazine

The Friends of the Library annual Adopt-a-Magazine campaign succeeds in getting over half the magazine subscriptions in the Library adopted.  Those who adopt receive a tax deductible receipt and a donor recognition card is placed on the plastic magazine cover.  If you are interested in seeing what’s available for adoption, stop by the Library and ask for Michele.

Travelogues

The popular travelogue series runs during the fall and winter.  Dates and topics to be announced later.  If you had an interesting travel experience and would like to share it with others, please contact Lynda Cook at 250-919-8382 or garylynda@shaw.ca.

Magazine & Audio-Visual Sale

Sometimes you don’t need a book, you just want to browse a magazine or a video to watch.  Every February, the Friends hold their one-day Magazine & Video Sale that features magazines that cover everything from current events to crafts, and videos on both DVD and videocassette that range from movies to TV shows to kids’ programs.  Audiophiles can browse a selection of music CDs and audio books.

Those with a current Friends of the Library membership get special access, and a 10% discount, at a preview night the evening before the sale opens to the public (memberships on sale at the door).  The sale is open to everyone the next day.

Donations Needed!

The Friends of the Library are always happy to accept donations of gently used books, CDs, audio books, videocassettes and DVDs.  Unfortunately, the Friends cannot accept encyclopedias or National Geographic magazines.  Drop donations off at any time at the Cranbrook Public Library’s circulation desk.
