Annual BC Summer Reading Club
Every year, the start of summer marks the launch of the Summer Reading Club for kids aged 5 – 12, along with a Read-Along Club for children under 5 who like to help their parents read picture books.
The BC Summer Reading Club is a free literacy program designed to engage school-aged children, ages 5-14, with libraries and reading, throughout the summer. We strive to do so in a way that is fun, educational, inclusive and community-oriented.
The program is designed to allow libraries from every part of the Province to plan and deliver the program in the way that best meets the distinctive needs of their communities. All children are invited to join the BC SRC by visiting their local library.
The BC SRC welcomes the participation of all children and their families, and seeks to provide an accessible and fully inclusive program.
2020 BC Summer Reading Club Theme
Welcome to the 2020 Summer Reading Club! Everything is different this year because of COVID-19. Although there will be no in-person programs or activities, there are still plenty of ways to be involved.
You can register online and track your reading progress using a virtual logbook: https://bcsrc.ca/
You can also pick up a paper registration form and paper reading log at the Library (outside on the table facing Kootenay Street).
Each week there will be virtual crafts and activities, as well as reading challenges and contests.
Watch our live programs on Facebook. We’ll have new programs each week, like storytelling, puppet shows, craft ideas, STEAM projects…
You can also win prizes each week!
We hope you have a wonderful start to your summer and come join us in the 2020 Summer Reading Club.
