At the Library for June 7th, 2016

Updated 2016/06/06

Hunter S. Thompson, the hard-drinking, drug-taking, Harley- riding, and gun-wielding journalist of all things gonzo, fathered only one child in his life—a mild-mannered computer nerd who was horrible at sports and liked to play Dungeons and Dragons. In ‘Stories I Tell Myself,’ Juan Thompson describes his life growing in the long shadow of a man who was convinced his son was gay. Full of photos and letters between the two, Juan’s writing frequently jumps above his father’s famous style.

To celebrate his 12th birthday, a young boy tries to get into the Guinness World Record Book in Andree Poulin’s hilarious ‘The Biggest Poutine in the World.’

Storytime is on hiatus until September, which means the Summer Reading Club is right around the corner.

The 2016 Summer Reading Club theme is Book a Trip! Summer Reading Club is FREE for children and teens and registration starts at the library on Saturday, June 25th. Attend the registration event on June 25th from 11:00am to 1:00pm and enter for the registration prize draw. Weekly programs, contests, and prizes start July 5th!

Mark your calendars for Saturday, July 9th for the Friends of the Library’s “Home Show and Shopping Fest” at Western Financial Place. If ever there is a place for one stop shopping it’s the Fest. There will be commercial businesses there, arts and crafts, local vendors, small and home businesses plus more. Admission and parking are free. While there, visit the food concessions and beer gardens. Come and shop, compare and save.

We have partnered with the Cranbrook Garden Club to create a new collection of seeds, available at no charge. Now you can check out a packet of seeds, plant them, harvest the next generation of seeds, and return them so other people can check them out. Don’t forget the Library also has countless gardening books, magazines and even DVDs.

Our website is up and running at: www.cranbrookpubliclibrary.ca
