At the Library for September 15, 2015
Updated 2015/09/14
Retired College of the Rockies instructor and local writer Michael J. Morris’ latest work is ‘The Chapleau Boys Go To War.’ Written with his cousin Michael K McMullen, Morris charts the story of the contributions and sacrifices made by the people of Chapleau, Ontario (a small village in Canada’s North) during the First and Second World Wars.
Young swashbucklers should enjoy Alain Surget’s ‘Jolly Roger’ series, where two orphaned twins discover their real father is a legendary pirate.
Storytime is back! Preschool Story Time is this Wednesday at 11:00 am, 1:15 pm, & 6:30 pm, and Toddler Story Time is 10:00 and 11:00 am. Both will be all about Friends!
It went by fast, but the Summer Reading Club has come to an end. Over 600 kids participated, making it our biggest summer yet. If you have not yet picked up your certificate or medals, they are being held for you at the front desk. Congratulations to everyone who participated this summer!
The Friends of the Cranbrook Public Library and the Sunrise Rotary Club volunteers are working industriously to get everything ready for the Annual Fall Book Sale. This event will be held at the Ktunaxa Nation Gym from Wed. Sept. 30 to Sunday, Oct. 4th.
There is still time to bring in your donations for this sale. Items must be in good condition. Please bring books, DVDs, CDs, videos and books on tape to the front circulation desk in the Library. At this time we can’t accept encyclopedia sets or National Geographic Magazines. However, we especially appreciate pocket books. For further information please call Ursula Boy at 250-426-4707.
45 in 45 returns! 45 Books in 45 Minutes is a fun, frenetic event where each reviewer gets exactly 1 minute to review a favorite book. The timing is absolute. If the reviewer tries to talk longer they should expect to get subjected to good-natured heckling by the audience. By the end of the evening all participants will leave with a list of 45 titles to read during the winter.
45 Books in 45 Minutes takes place on Thursday, October 29th from 6:30 pm in the Manual Training School at the Cranbrook Public Library. Both local authors Keith Powell and Jim Cameron will be discussing their newly published books. Reviewers are needed—so if you are interested in reviewing please fill out the form available at the Library’s front desk. There is a draw for two gift certificates for those who review. We hope you will be part of this enjoyable, entertaining and exhilarating book reviewing event.
