Column: At the Library
From: Cranbrook Public Library
By Mike Selby

Probably the only thing more fascinating than the 1922 discovery of King Tutankhamun’s tomb is his cause of death. Originally believed to have died of disease, a fatal fall from a chariot became the accepted wisdom after a 1968 x-ray revealed a blow to the back of Tut’s head. Years later, as Egyptologists learned more and more about the era of Tut’s rule, murder began to appear as good as any an explanation his early demise. In THE MURDER OF KING TUT, mystery writer James Patterson explores Tut’s death, revealing all the real-life intrigue, betrayal, and power struggles faced by a 9-year-old King; and how his death was far from accidental.

Younger readers should enjoy Jane Yolen’s THE SCARECROW’S DANCE. The large and beautifully illustrated book is the tale of a Scarecrow’s quest for freedom while helping a young farm-boy.
